HOW TO GET TO EPPING FOREST – FROM LONDON

Take the London Overground from Liverpool Street to Chingford. From there it’s a 15 minute walk across Chingford Plain and into the magical world of TARTARUS in Bury Wood. This is where you’ll find the twisted old hornbeams and oaks that make up the majority of the series. Alternatively get the Central Line to Loughton and head for Loughton Camp to see the magnificent beech trees.

FIND THE TREES – USE WHAT3WORDS

Want to find the trees and explore them yourself? What3words is an address system and app that has divided the entire surface of the world into 3×3 metre squares and given each one a three word address. Each TARTARUS image has a unique what3words address you can type into any hiking app that supports the system (not Google Maps).

TARTARUS LOCATION PINS – ON YOUR PHONE

Epping Forest is best explored using a hiking app with detailed trails and paths like Pocket Earth for iPhone (see screen grab) or Locus Map for Android. Google Maps lacks this level of detail. In the hiking app’s search bar type in voters.lifted.wink and you will be shown the exact location for the my zine’s cover image TITYOS. You can also import all the TARTARUS locations by downloading the GPX file below to your phone and using the import function in the app.
